East Coast

Report Date: Wed. December 14, 2016
By Forecaster: Austin Gendron: austin@globalsurfreports.com

Tropical Conditions:
No tropical cyclones at this time

Swell Forecast:
Small surf expected through the remainder of the week for most of the East Coast.

There could be a quick NE windswell event for Friday and Saturday down along the Southeast Coast.  Chances are it will only bring knee to chest high surf for standouts though.

Following that models show a storm system approaching Saturday that could generate the next round of S-SE windswell for the Mid Atlantic coast and Northeast.  The GFS is looking a little more aggressive, with potential for a stormy chest to overhead+ round of surf early Sunday, followed by cleaner conditions after the front passes and the swell starts to quickly back off.

One other quick note, which I will likely leave here through the month of December.  After almost 10 years working on Swellwatch, they are finally going to shut me down.  Budgeting changes I guess are the reason.  After December 31st there will be no more updates to this forecast.  As of right now I’m not planning on continuing the East Coast surf forecast, unless there is a very vocal outcry.  I will continue to write for Central America and California on solspot.com though.  The format is a little different, but its fun.  I'm not sure if I will continue to update the current formatted report on GlobalSurfReports.  Anyways, I want to thank everyone for the support over the years.  You have all been absolutely great, and the feedback and emails I get are always appreciated.

Weekly Outlook:
New England:

Small surf through the start of the weekend.  Looks like southerly windfall will pick up late Saturday/Sunday, with winds shifting more northerly mid to late Sunday to clean things up.  Wave heights could be running chest to overhead+ at standouts, but will be quickly easing following the passing of the storm.

Mid Atlantic (Delmarva, New Jersey, New York):
Small surf through the start of the weekend.  Looks like southerly windfall will pick up late Saturday/Sunday, with winds shifting more northerly mid to late Sunday to clean things up.  Wave heights could be running chest to overhead+ at standout southerly exposures, but will be quickly easing following the passing of the storm.

Southern States (Florida, Georgia, SC, NC):
Small surf through most of the work week.  Knee to chest high mixed up swell from the NE arrives Friday for Florida.  That swell will shift more E-SE over the weekend as it backs off.  As low pressure moves offshore the Carolinas could get a shot of SE windswell Saturday and Sunday bringing waist to chest high surf.  Winds look pretty tough onshore though.
