East Coast

Report Date: Mon. February 27, 2012
Synopsis:
(Monday) As the Southeast sees smaller E-ESE trade swell today with not so awesome conditions, everywhere else is pretty much small to flat.  The first half of this week is looking pretty disappointing for the northern part of the region, although there could be some E-ESE windswell popping up for New England on Tuesday.  Overall it’s a pretty small trend through at least Wednesday.

A shortwave system is expected to move off the Northeast Coast mid-week that could develop an interesting windswell pattern.  The mid-Atlantic region could see building S-SE windswell, while New England gets a mix of E-NE.  The way the system is looking, there could be ridable conditions as well, with most of the fetch developing offshore late Thursday and Friday.

Another system is expected to move off the coast on Friday, bringing S-SE windswell to the Southeast first and moving up the coast by Saturday.

Tropical Discussion:
Tropical season is over

Weekly Regional Outlook:

New England:
(Monday the 27th) don’t expect much going on till at least Thursday.  New E-ENE swell should pick up through the region, bringing possibly some waist to shoulder high surf to stand out breaks.  Swell could build Saturday and show more in the overhead+ range on the bigger sets depending on what happens with Friday’s system.  I’ll have to keep an eye on it.  With the fetch being offshore, it looks like winds could be lighter along the coast.  Another system will bring S-SE windswell later in the weekend as well.

Mid-Atlantic (Delmarva, New Jersey, New York):
(Monday the 27th) don’t expect much going on till at least Thursday.  New E-ENE swell should pick up through the region, bringing possibly some waist to shoulder high surf to stand out breaks.  Swell could build Saturday and show more in the overhead+ range on the bigger sets depending on what happens with Friday’s system.  I’ll have to keep an eye on it.  With the fetch being offshore, it looks like winds could be lighter along the coast.  Another system will bring S-SE windswell starting Saturday, helping out the south facing coast that probably wasn’t getting too much of the E swell on Friday.  Winds could start to be a bit on the hairy side though.

Southern States (Florida, Georgia, SC, NC):
(Monday the 27th) A mix of ESE-ENE windswell is making for some fun looking size through the region, but conditions aren’t that great, with a bit of chop on the surface for a lot of areas.  Size will continue to hover in the knee to chest high range for the southern part of the region and a bit smaller farther north through at least mid week.  Conditions could improve some for Florida Thursday and Friday, but new S windswell building along the northern coast could mean strong winds and a little bigger surf.

That's it for today be safe and get in the water...
